    Assalamu Alaikum

Songs, as other things like drawings, paintings, jewellery, is a blessing of God bestowed upon us, as told in 7:32. In the next Aayat 7:33 Quran told a general princinple for the things which He has forbidden. Under this principle, some of the things which are clear obscenity and shirk are haram but in the qawwalis for example, we see there is sufi philosophy. Beautiful lyrics and music, for example Alif Allah by NFAK, lyrics of sufi philosophy of pantheism which is told in rather non-obvious words. This type of poem resding or listening to qawwali just to enjoy, will that come under the category of haram
