  • Is Consentual Sex A Sin Against Human Or A Sin Against Allah?

Posted by Nadeem Minhas on May 17, 2024 at 9:07 pm

In scenario one, who will be the forgiver of the sin of having consentual sex between two? Is it the other person or Allah?

In scenario two, If there happens to be a child as a result of a consentual sex, then would the child be the forgiver or Allah.

God made extramarital sex a crime, not just sin, to save the family unit. It causes usurpation of rights if family. Since Gid has forbidden it, violating His command is a crime too. Therefore if one has beg for forgiveness from God and his family too and his child from the illicit relation.

Thank you for your response Dr. Irfan. Extramarital relationship in my opinion is also a crime against the person’s wife.

But, my original question was assuming an unmarried person.

Assalam-o-Alaikam. Dr. Irfan. Will you please share your opinion about the above case for unmarried persons.

The means or ways that lead to a crime or sin are also forbidden as sadd e zarya, preemptive measures. Therefore zina before marriage is forbidden for the same reason.

Dr. Irfan sahb: respectfully and humbly, I strongly disagree that sexual relations of unmarried people are forbidden as “sad e Zaria”.

It is directly harmful to society and rights of others. So it is a big sin in itself – being a crime against fabric of human society. One may call it an act of utter rebellion against Allah’s design for human life i.e. social structures based on family as a fundamental unit.

When God has forbidden it, it it has become a direct violation to the directive of God. But why is it forbidden is the question. So we find that if one is able to avoid having children out of zina, still zina with consent is forbidden.

it is actually to save the person from being lecherous, and to save the family unit. An unmarried man has no family of his own, a spouse, who is directly affected by it and the children. Therefore even if the zina before marriage apparently harm none, it is forbidden.

However, If one believes that it directly harms the society despite the safety measures, one may have the other opinion as you presented.

Yes, it is clear that mannerisms prescribed for social interaction between unrelated men and women is what we can call “sad e Zaria” to save them from temptation.

If consensual sex is theorized to be a “sad e Zaria” it will amount to dangerously misleading and misinterpretation regarding a major sin.

First of all, it is a severe injustice to the woman involved. Because she deserves respect and protection that comes with nikah.

Secondly, it jeopardizes rights and future of any child conceived in such relations. It’d either lead to abortion, which is murder and also endangers a woman’s life. If such a child is born, it’d be an extreme cruelty to him/her to be born like this that’d lead to a number of deprivations.

Thirdly, it’d seriously affect the rights of other people who participants of such relations may marry in future.

Prevalance and spread of this practice can clearly destroy the foundations of society by destroying the most critical social institution i.e family. And, that is what we see happening at an alarming rate.

In my humble opinion from social sciences, sexual relations out of wedlock involving married or unmarried people destroys the social order based on family. Once structure of family is undermined all kinds of social evils emerge because of weakening of moral training, and social and emotional protection that strong kinship bonds provide.

Thank you all for your comments and opinion. In my view Islam in its core belief is the easiest religion to follow, except making extramarital relationships an extreme sin. In Islam this is the hardest and the most difficult part of one’s test that goes against nature and a big dread that young people have in accepting or following Islam. I totally agree with the societal issues with extramarital relations, but at certain age no one thinks about it, nor they have discipline or control. The brain simply ceases to think.

That is why the philosophical shift brought by materialism and secularism puts physical pleasures above everything else.

Human history has had periods of hedonism linked with false materialist idol worship cults. All advanced civilizations including pagans such as Greeks, Romans, and Hindus/Buddhists taught people to keep sexuality in limits of decency.

Modern materialism, first takes a hit on family structure to isolate it’s victims like a predator; then preaches philosophies of pleasure in garb of happiness; and then floods the world with pornography and ample opportunities. It becomes the worst global network of inescapable sexual exploitation of women. It is worse than temple prostitution of girls from noble families of Carthage who worshipped god of wealth (rain, water, and harvest) Ba’al or Molech.

Allah promises in Quran that he doesn’t impose any religious requirements on anyone that a person can’t handle, but restrictions on physical relationships seems to be the one that many are incapable of handling except a very few of those with solid belief and extreme discipline and control in their teen years.

Why hedonistic materialist cults promoted sexuality in temples? Because they wanted to encourage it in the society. Because once people are trapped in this worst kind of addiction i.e. sex, they’ll fall victim to every other evil.

Stories are told about how Israelite men started worshipping idols. They were attracted to Moabite women (their pagan neighbours in Canaan), went to their temples, had sex with them, ate sacrificial meals offered to Ba’al, and bowed before the abominable idol only to please the women they loved.
