  • Authenticity Of The Events Of Exodus In The Absence Of Historical Record?

Posted by Osman Kabeer on August 7, 2024 at 6:37 pm

Aoa, how the events of Exodus differs in Islam and Judaism/Christianity? How the events presented by Islam are more accurate? How do we see the absence of historical record of this event since many history/archeology/egyptology scholars see it as a myth? How do we reconcile absence of historical records with our faith? Jazak Allah

There is no difference in the account of exodus as told by the Qur’an and the Bible. The Bible contains the details.

Every history is the account of its community. Contemporary and archeological evidence are secondary to it. Archeological evidence can’t be counted here. Such evidence are expected from the people who build or erect something. Exodus was a movement from one place to another. Moreover archeological evidence can only confirm an event or incident already recorded by history. But its absence can’t confirm anything. The same goes for the contemporary evidence. We can’t expect a historian be there or visit the place there at that time to confirm the event.

When a whole community unanimously narrates an event it is accepted. This is how history works. We believe that there was Socrates who was poisoned to death. This narration came from a community. There is no contemporary or archeological evidence to confirm the person of Socrates and the tragedy he met.
