Concept Of Ummah And Superiority Of The Prophets
We have often heard, “The ummah of Rasool (saw) is the blessed ummah”. Or “we are blessed to be from among the ummah of Rasool (saw)”. As well as “The Rasool (saw) will intercede for his ummah on the day of Judgement.”
My question is, isn’t Muhammad (saw) for ALL believers, whether those who preceded him or succeeded him?
Why do we single out those Muslims from his (saw) time and the latter ones till the day of Judgement as his ummah and name them as the ‘lucky’ ones?

So as a simple answer to my question, can we conclude that the ummah of prophet Muhammad (saw) is ALL the believers/ALL the Muslims to exist from the beginning (those who preceded him) and those who will come after him,. Is that correct @UmerQureshi

True! All the true followers of the prophets of their times were Muslims.

But since Prophet Muhammad (saw) was the last and his Prophethood confirmed the prophethood of all the previous prophets. So the true followers of each of the prophets of their time would also be included in the ummah of prophet Muhammad (saw)?

If Ummahs of all previous Prophets were Muslim, then why single out on the basis of ummah of one prophet only?
I think considering them all Muslims already makes us one Ummah.

Because of the elevated status of the ummah of Rasool ul Allah (saw) in particular. And especially because of the notion that the ummah present at the time of Rasool (saw) and the later ones to come are especially blessed because of him.
I heard a scholar saying “it is Allah’s Ahsan on us that we are from the ummah of Rasool (saw).”

This traditional concept is based on those ahadith of intercession and some other misplaced interpretation of Quranic verses that give absolute superiority to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him) over all the other prophets (peace be upon the all). Contrary to this, Quran paints a totally different picture.
However, I don’t find this statement “it is Allah’s Ahsan on us that we are from the ummah of Rasool (saw).” objectionable if put in the right context i.e. it is Allah’s ahsan on every ummah who followed their respective prophets.”
