Moderator January 4, 2021 at 12:06 pmFor Sunnis there is no theological concept of of imamat. The only leader is Prophet Mohammad saw. Scholars especially those who helped gather Sunnah are generally called imams for reverence.
For Shias, there is a theological concept of divinely appointed imams that people have to follow. There is no basis for it in the Quran and the Sunnah.

Member January 4, 2021 at 12:51 pmThank you for this link, but that doesn’t satisfy me. My question is still like why All these imams started doing this? And how do we know that these Hadith and sunnah have no errors in it?

Moderator January 4, 2021 at 1:08 pmThe term ‘Imam’ is widely used to refer to recognized Islamic scholars and jurists. They are neither appointed by God nor free from mistakes. They are human beings who, after the demise of the Prophet Muhammad (sws), started to study and interpret the Quran, Sunnah and Ahadees, deducing laws from them and formulating religious thought. They disagree with each other over several matters and agree on others. The most popular among these are four great scholars i.e., Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik, Imam Shafi, and Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal.

Moderator January 4, 2021 at 6:38 pmImam is not an islamic term, but a term used by Muslims to revere certain people for their religious contributions to the society. For example, muditheen, fuqha, scholars, and even some Quran translators / exegetists are often called imams.
The Islamic shariah of preaching is very clear from the Quran. Please see the following for details:
