In Quran 16:15 and 78:6-7, mountains are described as being placed as pegs or stabilizers for the Earth. Since modern geology explains mountains as products of tectonic activity and does not regard them as structures that prevent earthquakes or stabilize the planet in the straightforward sense often claimed, how should these verses be understood? Also, regarding Quran 4:11-12, why do some inheritance scenarios require later juristic adjustments such as ʿawl for the shares to work mathematically, rather than the Quran explicitly providing a complete formula? Finally, how do scholars reconcile the Quranic descriptions of human creation as a special act with the scientific consensus that humans arose through evolution and share common ancestry with other life forms?
