Apparently this hadith has been narrated by 62 companions. Can it be termed my tawattur?Umer replied 4 years, 10 months ago 3 Members · 10 Replies

UmerModerator December 19, 2020 at 7:12 pmThe very fact that a hadith is dependent on the names of narrators is evidence enough that it doesn’t meet the condition of tawatur. -
A HasanContributor December 19, 2020 at 7:12 pmWhat is the condition? Is it not simply when the number of narrators is so diverse and reliable that collusion of a lie or a misunderstanding is impossible?

UmerModerator December 19, 2020 at 7:13 pmYes.

A HasanContributor December 19, 2020 at 7:14 pmSo isn’t 62 companions enough for that?

UmerModerator December 19, 2020 at 7:45 pmFor something to meet the condition of tawatur it must be perpetually and concurrently transmitted through generations by such a large body of people that their conspiring or colluding on a lie must be incomprehensible. There’s no objective count of people that can be associated with tawatur. -
A HasanContributor December 19, 2020 at 7:47 pm62 of the companions of the prophet isn’t enough for the collusion of lie to be incomprehensible? There’s two things- the large body, and the reliability of each person in said large body

UmerModerator December 19, 2020 at 7:50 pmTawatur has nothing to do with reliability of people involved. My comments on the number are above.

A HasanContributor December 19, 2020 at 7:51 pmWhy not? The incomprehensibility of the lie is the variable being discussed- unless tawatur inherently ensues perpetual concurrence in its meaning too.
