Deciding Applicability Of Verses Todays Time Or Prophet's Time
We see a trend that people apply Quranic ayats in today’s events while they were only for a specific period of time. So how do we understand this principle that which ayats are forever and can be applied at anytime and which were specific for that time. For example sometimes we quote the ayats that says jahil etc to the mushreeken at that time to the people now who do bad things like bowing in front of the Mazarat etc. Hope you got my question

Very good question. I think someone need to take this task and mark all ayahs in Quran with such information. Although we need to keep in mind that those eyahs are in literal meaning for that time, but the inherent message is applicable to all times. For example, it seems like 1/5 of Quran is full of old stories of other prophets, but communication of inherent message in each story is the real purpose why the story is in Quran.

Also, if the hudood and laws as in case of lashes is a punishment at the time of the Prophet (Peace be on him) then what is the relevance of Quran to our times so it becomes basically a book for aqaid. Besides, who will decide what is for the Prophets time and what is for all times . We have always been told that quran is for all times. Very confusing . Thanks

In very simplistic terms, a verse cannot be considered time-bound when the conditions giving rise to that verse are somewhat permanent in nature and all related conditions still exist. In case of thievery, the act of theft exists even today and if it fulfils the conditions of punishment as mentioned in Quran, the verses would still be applicable.
