Noor On One's Face A Sign Of Piety?
Often times, noor (light) on a person’s face is said to be indicative of their piety and religiosity. Is there any basis for this belief in the Quran and the Sunnah?

In my opinion, this is due to verse 48:49. In general, many scholars has taken the meaning of “the mark of sajda” in this ayah as a light of obedience and humility. However, Molana Islahi sb donot agree with this interpretation. He writes in Tadabuur e Quran following
’سِیْمَاہُمْ فِیْ وُجُوہِہِمۡ مِّنْ أَثَرِ السُّجُودِ‘۔ یہ ان کی خاص علامت امتیاز کی طرف اشارہ ہے کہ ان کے چہروں پر سجدوں کے نشان نمایاں ہیں۔ الفاظ سے یہ بات صاف نکل رہی ہے کہ یہاں وہی نشان مراد ہیں جو کثرت سجود سے پیشانی پر پڑ جاتے ہیں اور یہ بات بھی بالکل واضح ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کو یہ نشان بہت محبوب ہیں یہاں تک کہ وہ چاہتا ہے کہ اس دنیا کے اندر یہ امت اسی نشان سے دوسری امتوں کے مقابل میں پہچانی جائے۔ یہ ساری باتیں الفاظ قرآن سے واضح ہیں اس وجہ سے ہم ان لوگوں کی رائے صحیح نہیں سمجھتے جنھوں نے ان الفاظ کو ان کے ظاہر معنی سے ہٹا کر ان کے مجازی معنی لینے کی کوشش کی ہے۔ ہمیں اس امر سے انکار نہیں ہے کہ بعض لوگ محض ریا کے لیے بھی اپنی پیشانی پر گھٹا ڈالنے کی کوشش کرتے ہوں گے لیکن محض اس بنا پر کہ کچھ لوگوں کے گھٹے محض نمائشی ہوتے ہیں اہل ایمان کے اس عظیم نشان امتیاز کی وقعت کم نہیں کی جا سکتی۔ ریا کا امکان جس طرح اس چیز کے اندر ہے اسی طرح دین کے ہر اعلیٰ و ادنیٰ کام میں ہو سکتا ہے۔

Quran is very clear about criteria for salvation:
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَالَّذِينَ هَادُوا وَالنَّصَارَى وَالصَّابِئِينَ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
[It is evident from this that the law of retribution is absolutely unbiased. Therefore,] those who profess faith in Muhammad and those [before them] who became Jews and those who are called Christians, and Sabaeans – whoever among them believes in Allah and in the Last Day and does righteous deeds – shall be rewarded by their Lord and [in His gracious presence] they shall have nothing to fear nor shall they grieve [there]. (Quran 2:62)
In the presence of such explicit directive, there’s no reason to be astrayed by such discussions. Usually ‘noor’ on someone’s face as a criteria for righteousness in this world has become a misnomer but has no basis in religion except for the indirect inference as mentioned by Ahsan Sahab (which doesn’t mean that at all).
