    Assalamualaikum,

    Could you please elaborate as to how the list of sunnah in meezan is compiled i.e. is the source history books, books of hadiths or a logical deduction from the current wider muslim practice.

    my confusion is that Ghamidi Sahib mentions that hadiths don’t provide any new religious practice or aqeedah then how is the list compiled. Wouldn’t we go to books of hadiths for the explanation of sunnah.

    Sunnah is present in Amali tawatur and Ijma of Muslims which can be traced back to Sahaba (who acquired it from Prophet and transmitted it to next generation with their consensus). This is done through books of ‘fiqh which are documenting ijma and tawatur of every time period. Akhbar-i-Ahad do contain application of both Sunnah and Quranic directives, but they are not source for either of them.
