  • Authenticity Of Narration Regarding Abu Bakr (rta) Burning His Hadith Collection

Posted by Amjad Daud on September 19, 2023 at 12:19 am

Ustaad muhtaram ooper bayan hadith ka zikr kar rahe hain “Hadith kya hai? -3” me.

Thoda iss hadith ki authenticity ke baare me wazahat kar den.

Kuchh ulama iss ko shia ki hadith kahte hain, iss hadith me majhool rawi hai..

It is a requirement to always provide references whenever something is quoted from another scholar. What you might be referring to is the quotation made by Ghamidi Sahab from Imam Dahabi’s book “Tazkarat-ul-Huffaz” (تذكرة الحفاظ) which can be seen in the video below from 10:40 to 14:02.

    Following is the relevent narration:

It is not a Hadith narration attributed to Prophet Muhammad (sws), rather it is more of a historical narration and for historical narrations, the chain does not matter as much as the plausibility of the event matters in the light of the holistic framework of history. Please refer to the following response of Ghamidi Sahab to understand his approach towards historical matters:

As far as the above narration of Imam Dahabi is concerned, there is not much objection on this narration except for the ones mentioned below:

    i) Imam Suyuti reported that Ibn-e-Kathir is reported to have said that one of the narrators Ali Bin Salih is unknown to him:

ii) Another narrator Musa bin Abdullah bin Hasan:

    – Yahya bin Moen considers him Siqqa (3/245 –

    – Weak according to Aqili (1730, 4/159,

    – Weak according to Ibn-e-Adii (1826, 8/62,

Since this narration falls in line with the overall approach of Abu Baqr (rta) during his lifetime as far as transmission of Hadith narrations is concerned, which are very few reported from him which tells us that he was very cautious when it came to transmission of any Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad (sws), therefore there is no reason to reject this historical narration.

I have been looking into it and it seems like Ghamidi sb is taking the last part of narration as part of the statement of abubakar RTA whereas other scholars take that last part of the statement as “ commentary of Dahabi”.

Part of the statement “ this is not correct and Allah knows the best”

    VS

Dahabi said “ this narration is not authentic and Allah knows the best”.

So other scholars (seems like all of them) declare that narration to be not authentic.

    Please clarify.

It is correct. Some scholars do consider the last sentence as the commentary of Dahabi instead.

May be Dr. Irfan Shahzad Sahab ( @Irfan76 ) can clarify further.

JazakAllah for your reply. I am having a discussion with my friends on this and I even accessed Arabic wording and it seems to be a continuation but scholars are of the opinion that this is actually style of dahabi to give his comments at the end, as a continuation. I am looking into other examples of this style in his book. But I would definitely appreciate some help with this because Ghamidi sb seems very confident in saying that it was part of Abubakar RTA’s statement. Whereas everyone else (including ChatGPT) believes it was commentary of Dahabi and this narration is not authentic.

BTW, I am a fan of Ghamidi sb and have learned a lot from him. This is not to criticize him but to understand it in more depth

    Salam.
