Is reciting Durood considered ibadat?
There is a group of newly converted Muslim youth. They told me that they felt that muslims thought about Prophet Muhammad SWS almost the same way as Christians about Jesus. For example thinking that Prophet Muhammad SWS would protect from going to hell and calling him as if he is listening and in the same context they asked that what is the importance of reciting durood.
For them (those new coverts) ibada means doing as ALLAH SWT has ordered you and when sitting doing nothing, then reciting ALLAH’s names.
They have hard time understanding the value of reciting durood. For them durood is basically a dua requesting ALLAH to send blessings to Prophet Muhammad SWS
