Please provide clarifications on the following issues pertaining to the subject:

    1) Whether sacrifice of a single animal can be done by different people on share basis? If so how many people can jointly offer sacrifice for a cow and a goat?

    2) Can sacrifice be offered in the name of a deceased person including our Prophet Muhammed, SAW. Moreover, if I am the earning member of my family, can the names of my wife and daughter who are alive, be included in this sacrifice.

    3) As mentioned by Ghamidi Sb. cutting of nails/hair on the occasion is a ‘nafl ibadat’. Does it include beard also, since according to Ghamidi Sb. keeping of beard is not part of ‘deeni ahkaam’.

    4) Finally, if one cuts his nails/hair before offering sacrifice, will the sacrifice offered still be valid?

    1). Ghamidi Sahab writes:

More than one people can share the sacrifice of camels and cows, both male or female. These share holders can even go up to seven (https://sunnah.com/muslim:1318b). There are some narratives which mention that at one instance in the presence of the Prophet (sws), ten people shared one camel for sacrifice and he did not stop them (https://sunnah.com/tirmidhi:1501).”

3). If one opts to follow this Sunnah of not cutting hair and trimming nails (which is a mustahab act and not fard) then it applies to all the bodily hair including the beard (just the way it is done during ihram).

4). These etiquettes are not a necessary pre-requisite for an animal sacrifice therefore, such a violation will not render the animal sacrifice void. The only pre-condition for an animal sacrifice of Eid is that it should be done after the Eid Salah and not before that. (Complete Shariah of Animal Sacrifice: Discussion 53889 • Reply 53966)

    1. There is no specific number of participants in an animal for sacrifice.

    3. It includes beard too. The purpose is to do trimming on sacrifice of the animal to show our servitude to God.

    3. It doesn’t affect the qurbani.
